election campaign redux
the central poster reads: soon in the markets | 1 million unemployed | 100% tunisian
this art installation is nothing short of brilliant. during the recent elections in tunisia, wall space was allocated to each political party. all around the country, long lines of black boxes were spray-painted onto walls and each party was able to paste two a4 pages in their allotted boxes. it made for images such as this one. the installation is a collection of twenty seven a4 black and white photos, pasted into the now redundant boxes. the images range from haunting images of poverty to group portraits of smiling children. all are stamped with the signature ‘the people of the rural areas’ - a reference, i believe, to 'the people of the cave.’
